One of the fun little touches I added to our day was to let homemade potpourri simmer quietly in a crockpot. Oh my goodness, you guys, why haven't I ever done this before?! It was like autumn itself was oozing out of that tiny corner of my counter. You have to give this a try. It's so inviting and there are times when its not possible to invite the smells in from outside, so this recipe is perfect for creating it naturally!
QUICK 2 STEPS TO MAKING HOMEMADE FALL POTPOURRI
Place all ingredients into a small slow cooker. Cover and cook for 2 hours on High heat.
Uncover, set on counter and your home will smell amazing for HOURS! Add water as needed and stir occasionally.
WHAT IS POTPOURRI?
Potpourri is an easy way to create an inviting scent into your home. Potpourri can be dried and shared in an open space in your home. Or in this potpourri recipe, simply simmering potpourri over a low heat a mix of fresh ingredients to share the aroma with a combination of fresh and dried fruits, spices, plant materials and sometimes essential oils.
A LIST OF GREAT IDEAS OF INGREDIENTS TO ADD TO YOUR POTPOURRI:
dried apple slices/dried fruit
fresh apple slices
grapefruit or orange slices, keeping the rind on
essential oils - lemon, grapefruit, vanilla,
HOW LONG WILL FALL SCENTED POTPOURRI LAST?
This is a mixture of ingredients that are good for the day. After placing the ingredients in the slow cooker and submersing them in water, the heat will use up all the scent from the pieces for about 4-6 hours, maybe longer. Be sure to toss out the used foods. To re-create the aroma, another batch of fruits, spices and plants should be put together.
I love this version of an air freshener because I know exactly what's in my pot or slow cooker, no chemicals and all delicious smelling ingredients I typically keep on hand. I hope you love it too!
