Reese's cheesecake brownies

A few weeks ago we celebrated a friend's life, which sadly ended far too soon. Our celebration of his time on earth was bittersweet. It was great fun, but we missed our friend. The celebration involved food and martinis. Food because, well, everyone needs food, and martinis because our friend loved martinis. I decided to contribute a "dish" to the potluck that was totally indulgent. I didn't feel like being healthy that day and based on all of the martinis consumed, nobody else did either. These delicious treats were supremely indulgent and I only needed a teeny tiny square to be satisfied. If you have a reason to be indulgent, you must give these a try. We don't always need a reason, though, do we?

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly coat a 9x13 pan with cooking spray.

Prepare a 19.5-oz. box of chocolate fudge brownie mix according to package directions. Spread the batter in the pan and set aside.

In a large bowl, beat one 8-ounce package of softened cream cheese with a hand-held mixer until fluffy.

Add:

One 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk

1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

Beat until smooth.

Stir in a 12-ounce package of Reese's Pieces candies.

Spoon the mixture over the brownie batter and spread evenly.

Bake for 40 minutes or until the cheesecake layer is set and the edges are golden brown. Cool for 30 minutes and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Add the following ingredients to a small microwaveable bowl:

One 12-ounce bag milk chocolate chips

3 tablespoons whipping cream

Microwave on high for 1 minute, or until the chips are melted. Stir until smooth. Spread over the cheesecake layer. Sprinkle 12 large Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (chopped) over the top. Store covered in the refrigerator.

I just made these for a work event and they came out great!! The chocolate seized on me too, but it still turned out just fine and everyone loved them! Thanks for the insane(ly good) recipe :)

Mine did not turn out like this, I had problems with the brownie and cheesecake, any suggestions?

What problems did you have specifically, Jenna?

I made these and the brownies did not cook all the way through. The cheesecake part was done but not the brownie. Should I cook the brownie batter some first and then add the cheesecake mixture? Thanks, Julie

You could try that, Julie. Or you could try adding a few additional minutes to the total time (baking both layers together).

Good thing I live near Chocolate World and can buy the Reese's stuff in big packs really cheap! These might be a make a lot instead of just occasionally!!

Thank you for this amazing recipe. They turned out perfect. Try a bag of the mini reese's peanut butter cups on top, easier. An excellent "comfort food", sorry about your friend.

I made these today for our Christmas party tonight. The chocolate seized on me as well. I added a little bit of water and it worked perfectly. Can't wait to taste them later. Merry Christmas everyone!

Do I cool and refrigerate the brownies before putting on the reeses and chocolate? or do I put them on before putting it in the fridge?

01.6.2012 | Unregistered Commenterkaylarae

kaylarae: I would suggest putting the Reese's on and then putting the brownies in the fridge.

Was thinking of making these today. Can you use light cream cheese or not?

02.4.2012 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

Hi Lisa! I haven't tried these with light cream cheese, but I imagine it should be fine. Let me know how it goes!

Saw these on Pinterest, amazingly delish! Tried to follow you on FB but the link goes to your personal page, do you have a page for your blog?

I would LOVE to try this, but won't make it cause I'd eat it! What a weight gain that would be! OMG!

So I have made these twice so far and to cut the fat a little I used fat free cream cheese, fat free sweetened condensed milk and reduced fat Peter pan peanut butter. They are so freaking good

I am so excited to make these for my boyfriend for his birthday!! He is a huge chocolate/peanut butter/ cheesecake fan, these are perfect! Thanks

I made these and they do taste really good! My problem was that adding the whipping cream to the chocolate caused it to seize...I think next time I'll just melt the chocolate and pour it on top and then refrigerate. But overall a great recipe!!

Look delicious! I substituted reseeses peanut butter baking chips for the reseese peices. I skipped the semi sweet chocolate layer suggested in this recipe and used the chocolate glaze packet that came in my Ghiradelli Fudge Brownie mix. I cut them into "2 bite" sized chunks and put them into mini muffin cups. Delicious and adorable. I gave them out as the perfect "Thank you" gift.

Love the recipe!

Although I have some suggestions for improvement:

Use a smaller box of brownie mix, and possible double the cheesecake ingredients. Also, use more than 12 peanut butter cups to cover it, maybe add in some Reese's Pieces as well.

I made these, the layer of cheesecake mix is not fluffy at all....Then after baking that and starting to let it cool after I thought everything was cooked the cheesecake layer began to fall then I discovered the brownies were not completely cooked.....suggestions? PLEASE HELP! I really wanna make this and it look like the picture next time, hopefully they are good, since they are currently back in the oven to help brownies finish.

Making these for my daughter's BDay next week, she is a huge Reese's fan. Just wanted to confirm I am cooking the
brownies as instructed on the box, and then again for 40 min with cheesecake mixture, seems long and didn't want the brownies to burn.
Thanks and sorry for your loss.

03.23.2012 | Unregistered CommenterLauren

Hi Lauren! No, do not bake the brownies and cheesecake layers separately. It might help to click on the "printable" link at the bottom of the post. That has a pretty detailed breakdown of the recipe. Please email me if you have any questions after looking at that. Enjoy the brownies!
